Auburn has named Sean White its starting quarterback for the 2016 season.
Tigers coach Gus Malzahn made the announcement during his Thursday press conference.
White, a redshirt sophomore, beat out senior Jeremy Johnson and junior college transfer John Franklin III for the starting job.
White started six games last season and threw for 1,166 yards and one touchdown, while completing 58 percent of his passes. His last start came in Auburn’s final game last season — its 31-10 Birmingham Bowl win over Memphis.
Malzahn did not name a backup quarterback.
Auburn hosts No. 2 Clemson in its season opener next Saturday.
