“I think our offense is sort of built around that type of guy,” Auburn tight end coach Scott Fountain said this spring. “You’ve got to be a great point-of-attack blocker. Just everything we do offensively, and Coach Malzahn’s offense has always been built around a three-back tight end.”
That’s why Auburn’s coaching staff is optimistic at the conclusion of spring camp.
Following the departure of Prosch after the 2013 season, Auburn lacked the prototypical H-back that Malzahn’s offense likes to depend on and move throughout the field. The Tigers instead leaned on tight ends C.J. Uzomah and Brandon Fulse to try to fill the void at H-back and almost serve as a stop-gap at the position.
