Pat Dye has been in the headlines recently with his comments on Auburn’s rivalry with Alabama; the former Tigers coach is back in the news again. Dye said Auburn wouldn’t be able to match Alabama’s tradition of football success – not even with a handy five-century head start – on Paul Finebaum’s ESPN Radio show.
“We could play football for another 500 years and not catch up to Alabama’s tradition,” said Dye, who coached Auburn from 1981 to 1992.
True, Auburn has only two national championships in over 100 years of playing football to Alabama’s 14, and seven SEC titles compared to their bitter rivals’ 27.
