Deese will replace Stephanie Brown, who resigned last week after 16 seasons. Opelika went 20-20 this past season. The Bulldogs’ season ended after they were eliminated in the Class 6A Area 4 tournament.
Blackmon said Deese accepted the job Wednesday morning.
Deese spent the last two seasons as an assistant softball coach, specializing in pitching, and as a volleyball coach at Beauregard High, where she also taught P.E. Deese has raised her family in Auburn. At the time of the hiring, she said she accepted the job at Beauregard because it afforded her the opportunity to stay in the community instead of moving somewhere else to coach collegiately.
