AUBURN, Ala. — Pat Dye defended an unpopular claim he made earlier this week on the “Paul Finebaum Show” when he said Auburn could not catch up with Alabama’s tradition in “500 years.”
Dye said on ESPN 106.7 in Auburn, “We’d have to go to the Rose Bowl a half a dozen times in the ’20s and ’30s to start with. I think that they claim like 17 national championships. I don’t see any team winning 17 championships in the next 100 years. Five-hundred years might have been stretching it. They’ve got great tradition and you have to give Alabama credit for that.
