Auburn safety Tray Matthews, after the team’s first scrimmage after spring break, misheard a question from a reporter about then-Tigers defensive back Derrick Moncrief. Matthews thought he was asked about “Dirty Mike” — a name it’s safe to say was unbeknownst to pretty much everyone.
“Dirty Mike, he’ll come in here or there,” Matthews said. “Dirty Mike, with coach (Will) Muschamp) you’d think Dirty Mike is like 6-1, 195 (pounds) when he out there playing; so he’s doing well.”
It didn’t take long for Matthews to clarify who he was talking about: Michael Sherwood, a sophomore walk-on cornerback from Riverdale, Ga.
