OPELIKA, Ala., – Former Auburn All-American Blayne Barber is tied for third after the Barbasol Championship first round with a 5-under 66 on Thursday at Grand National. First-team All-American Michael Johnson, making his professional debut, is tied for 10th at 4-under while rising senior Matt Gilchrest is tied for 54th at 1-under.
Barber, whose round included six birdies, is a shot back from co-leaders Angel Cabrera and Jhonattan Vegas. After making the turn at the 18th, the 2012 Auburn graduate had back-to-back birdies on Nos. 2 and 3 and added two more on Nos. 6 and 9, his final hole of the day.
