The story has been told a million times by commentators infinitely more familiar with the details than me. Still, it’s a story that must be told and retold lest it be forgotten.
Auburn and Alabama did not meet in football between 1907 and 1948. For mostly political reasons, primarily the University of Alabama’s refusal to view Auburn as an equal, the schools’ rivalry played out in the state legislature, not the gridiron.
