It was a weekend to remember for Auburn’s Hugo Gonzalez. The freshman from Rivas-Vaciamadrid, Spain, won three events, set three school records and collected three NCAA Automatic qualifying times for Auburn’s swimming team at the Georgia Invitational over the weekend. Then on Tuesday he was named the SEC’s Co-Male Swimmer of the Week.
Gonzalez won the 200 IM on Friday night in 1:42.02, besting the field by over a second and Joe Patching’s almost two-year-old program record by .19 seconds. His time, an NCAA A cut, is currently third-fastest in the country. His prelims time of 1:43.
