Last week, Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs said he expected Gus Malzahn to be the Tigers’ coach for “a long, long time.” Monday, the school announced that Malzahn had agreed to a contract extension through the 2020 season.
Malzahn signed the extension on April 1, and his salary has increased to
$4.725 million per season. His buyout has not changed: He would be owed $2,237,500 per year remaining on his contract if he is fired.
AL.com reported that under the terms of the new deal, Malzahn will earn a combined $500,000 more in 2016 and ’17 than he would have under the previous deal; he will earn a combined $500,000 less in 2018 and ’19.
