Gus Malzahn names Jeremy Johnson starting quarterback

Just two days after the Tigers wrapped up their annual A-Day game, head coach Gus Malzahn announced via Twitter that junior Jeremy Johnson was named the team’s starting quarterback heading into next season.

“Everyone in our program has 100 percent confidence in him,” Malzahn tweeted shortly after 2 p.m.

The announcement came as no big surprise, with Johnson heavily favored to succeed two-year starter Nick Marshall as the man behind center in Malzahn’s hurry-up, no-huddle offense. After serving as Marshall’s backup each of the last two seasons, Johnson didn’t waste much time separating himself from redshirt freshman Sean White.
