Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said Tuesday that he wants to be able to name a starting quarterback “sooner rather than later” once fall camp starts and that coaches may have to let the quarterbacks take full contact before picking the starter.
Senior Jeremy Johnson, sophomore Sean White and JC transfer John Franklin III were the main competitors during spring drills, and true freshman Woody Barrett joins the battle this summer.
“We’ll have ways to put our guys in situations for them to step up,” Malzahn said at an Atlanta Auburn Club event at the College Football Hall of Fame.
