Sometimes you play about as well as you can and still lose.
That was the case for Auburn in its 13 to 29 loss to Alabama Saturday. The Tigers played a solid game and still lost.
To beat this Alabama team, it needed to play a great game.
Auburn needed Jeremy Johnson to connect with Ricardo Louis for a touchdown late in the second quarter. It needed Blake Countess to catch Jacob Coker’s errant pass even later in the second quarter and return it for a touchdown. It needed to put Coker to the ground on two missed opportunities at sacks mid-way through the third quarter.
