Auburn returns to the Sugar Bowl for the first time since 2005 when Tommy Tuberville’s undefeated Tigers beat Virginia Tech. In total, Auburn has had the honor of playing in the game on five occasions, and it all started against Oklahoma, too.

1. Jan. 1, 1972 v. Oklahoma
When people think of 1971 Auburn football, one particular name comes to mind – Pat Sullivan. As Auburn’s first Heisman Trophy winner, he led the Tigers to a 9-1 season, with one loss to Alabama, who eventually went on to lose the national championship game in the Orange Bowl against Nebraska.
