Former Auburn linebacker Eltoro Freeman waited almost three years for another contract to play professional football. And not just waited -- worked, too, so he'd be ready when the opportunity he never lost hope of getting came along.
And it did. Freeman, whose last game for Auburn came in the Tigers' 43-24 victory over Virginia in the Chick-fil-A Bowl on Dec. 31, 2011, signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League in February. On Saturday night, the Roughriders opened their preseason schedule with a 31-24 loss to the Edmonton Eskimos – Freeman's first game since he made four tackles for Auburn in the Chick-fil-A Bowl 1,260 days earlier.
