It wasn’t the season Auburn had hoped for. A 6-6 record is a far cry from the playoff aspirations this team had in August. But Gus Malzahn and his players are still headed to a bowl game, though it will be a short trip to the Birmingham Bowl, where they will face Memphis on Dec. 30.
“It’s very unique that we’re playing a bowl game in our home state,” Malzahn said. “I think we’ve got like 20 percent of our players from the state of Alabama. So to get a chance to play in a bowl game here is really big.
