DURHAM, N.C. – Two days after becoming the first No. 1 overall draft pick in program history, junior right-hander Casey Mize has been named a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, USA Baseball announced Wednesday.
Mize is joined by Kody Clemens (Texas), Brady Singer (Florida) and Andrew Vaughn (California) as one of four finalists for the award. He is also the fourth Auburn player to be named a Golden Spikes Award finalist – Gregg Olson (1988), John Powell (1993-94) and Tim Hudson (1997).
The four finalists and their families will be invited to Los Angeles for the Golden Spikes Award presentation and the annual Rod Dedeaux Foundation Awards Dinner at the Jonathan Club in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday, June 28.
