AUBURN, Ala. – Since his time back at Auburn in the 1980s as the “Round Mound of Rebound,” Charles Barkley often has been placed on par with former football greats like Pat Sullivan, Bo Jackson and Cam Newton as some of the best athletes in Tigers history.
But unlike his football counterparts, they have had something at Auburn he has not – and it isn’t just a Heisman Trophy.
Soon, though, that will be changing.
During the first quarter of Auburn’s 56-3 beat down of Arkansas this past Saturday, Jackson announced in a video on the Jordan-Hare Stadium scoreboard that the school was building Barkley a statue in his honor outside of Auburn Arena.
