Reggie Gilbert's Auburn experience can be called the outline for the make and model of the "Auburn man." Now retired, the former Tiger baseball player is back in the Auburn area, and credits his Auburn experience with preparing him for his successful business career.
Gilbert arrived at Auburn in 1962 from his hometown of Birmingham and began his career with Tiger baseball. Originally a pitcher, Gilbert wanted to play each game, so he transitioned to infielder and centerfielder. Centerfield became his "first love, where he eventually played permanently.
The Tigers enjoyed many successful seasons through Gilbert's time on the Plains.
