Less than two months out of high school and Austin Wiley has been named the SEC Freshman Player of the Week for leading Auburn to an 84-64 victory over Alabama.
The 6-foot-11 center has improved with each appearance since arriving on the Plains December 16th. Saturday he scored 19 points including 11 of 18 free throws and two monster dunks. He literally took over the game in the second half helping the Tigers roll the Tide by 20 points.
He’s made a remarkable transition to the college level game. “When Austin first got here” said coach Bruce Pearl, “it was all we could do to teach him what we do … [But now], “he knows what we do, so let’s start doing some stuff that’s best for him and take advantage of him.
