Auburn softball got solid outings from both Kaylee Carlson and Makayla Martin, who combined to allow only five hits between both contests, while timely hitting keyed the Tigers to their 23rd and 24th victories on the opening day of the USF tournament.
In the opening game, Carlson didn’t allow a hit until North Dakota State’s Vanessa Anderson homered to right field to give the Bison a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the inning, Kasey Cooper hit her fifth home run of the season to tie the game, 1-1.
Auburn took the win in walk-off fashion when Madi Gipson came to the plate with the bases loaded and grounded a single through the right side to score Bree Fornis to win it, 2-1.
