For all the speculation about where Gus Malzahn's might be headed in the post-Nick Marshall era, the primary goal of Auburn's passing offense hasn't changed now that Jeremy Johnson and Sean White are running Malzahn's scheme.
The Tigers want to push the ball vertically.
Even on A-Day, Auburn's offense wanted to take some shots deep down the field against Will Muschamp's defense, and the results came away mixed, although a hot stretch by Johnson in the second quarter offered a glimpse of what this passing game can be in the right hands.
"As long as we make plays down the field vertically, at least eight down-the-field plays (per game), we are going to be very successful," Johnson said.
