AUBURN, Ala. -- At this time a year ago, Auburn was about to begin spring practice with a new starting quarterback. It was the same predicament most teams in the SEC were facing. But the Tigers were confident because they had Jeremy Johnson, the next “star” in the conference.
Johnson still had to go out and win the job during the spring, though that was all but a foregone conclusion. And sure enough, two days after the spring game, he was named the starter.
Fast forward to this year. Johnson is back, but it’s anything but a foregone conclusion that he will win the job.
