MINNEAPOLIS - Auburn opened up the 2018 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships at Minnesota’s Freeman Aquatic Center with a 17th-place finish in the only event contested on Wednesday night, the 800 freestyle relay.
Hugo Gonzalez led off in 1:35.40, which put Auburn in eighth after the first leg, a position they held throughout Peter Holoda (1:36.09) and Liam McCloskey’s (1:35.63) legs. Zach Apple then went 1:30.74 to move the team up to seventh in the heat with a total time of 6:17.86.
NC State won the event in a NCAA, American and US Open record time of 6:05.
