That trend is really apparent since 2008 when Auburn started the season ranked in the top 10 and finished the year unranked. Three times Auburn has entered the season ranked in the preseason poll, but finished the year outside of the top 25.
They’ve also flipped the script on the preseason rankings once before when they began 2013 outside of the top 25 and finished number two in the final rankings.
In the past 11 years Auburn has been outside the top 25 in the preseason rankings just four times – counting the upcoming 2016 season – with three of those times coming in the past five years, so you can understand why Auburn fans are on the verge of losing their patience with Gus Malzahn.
