Auburn first-team defense dominates in A-Day scrimmage | Columbus Ledger-Enquirer

Auburn defensive lineman Nick Coe set the tone for the Tigers’ A-Day scrimmage with 4:42 to go in the game’s first quarter.

With the Blue team offense backed up on its own 7-yard line, true freshman quarterback Joey Gatewood took the third-down snap and searched for some real estate. Coe, who had tackled running back C.J. Tolbert for a 3-yard loss the play before, came through the offensive line and met Gatewood in the end zone.

Gatewood’s green jersey kept Coe from driving his teammate into the ground, but it didn’t stop head coach Gus Malzahn from signaling safety.
