Auburn defensive end Cowart has appendectomy

AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn coach Gus Malzahn says defensive end Byron Cowart has had an emergency appendectomy.

Malzahn says the sophomore had the procedure Wednesday morning. The coach says he's not sure how long Cowart will be out.

Cowart was rated as the nation's top recruit out of high school. He has played in all 10 games off the bench, recording six tackles, including one behind the line of scrimmage, and forcing a fumble.

Malzahn said Wednesday that no determination has been made on whether quarterback Sean White would play for the Tigers Saturday against Alabama A&M.
