AUBURN, Ala. – Around this time last season, the atmosphere surrounding Auburn quarterback Jeremy Johnson was completely different.
In April 2015, well before the start of last season, Tigers coach Gus Malzahn announced on Twitter with absolute certainty that Johnson would start at quarterback for the team that fall.
“We just named Jeremy Johnson our starting QB for 2015,” Malzahn wrote. “Everyone in our program has 100 percent confidence in him! War Eagle!”
But as that season progressed, he would later question his previous stance.
Johnson, who had learned under then-Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall in each of the previous two seasons, gave pundits a complete 180 from the preseason predictions he had, many of which declared him as the next Cam Newton.
