Every Auburn beat reporter, blogger, and casual fan has weighed in on almost every aspect of the newly-released Auburn depth chart. While there were some interesting battles that seemed to be finalized, including center and punter, this isn’t the case at the running back position. Coach Malzahn tabbed Roc Thomas as the starting back against Louisville, though he was quick to point out that the position battle was far from over.
There isn’t an Auburn fan that didn’t raise eyebrows over the notion that Thomas could and would be the workhorse back among the four potential starters. Most assumed that Kerryon Johnson would be a situation player in a limited role, specifically the one Thomas seemed to have sewn up, the third-and-long, change-of-pace back that makes the Auburn offense so diverse.
