Four-star running back Devan Barrett committed to Auburn on Thursday, becoming the Tigers’ 13th commitment in the 2017 recruiting class. He is considered one of the nation’s top 20 running backs.
Barrett (6 feet 1, 190 pounds) is from Tampa Catholic, the same prep alma mater as Tigers true freshman wide receiver Nate Craig-Myers. Barrett also has seen time at safety for Tampa Catholic.
Barrett also had offers from, among others, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Miami and Tennessee. He ran for 1,891 yards and 21 TDs last season for a state-playoff team.
He is the first pure running back to commit to the Tigers this cycle, though two “athletes” who have committed – Alaric Williams and JC star Octavius Matthews – could end up at running back.
