We're just one day away from National Signing Day on February 3rd, which means head coach Gus Malzahn and the Auburn Tigers are focusing their efforts in hopes of delivering a great 2016 recruiting class. With that in mind, here are the latest news and rumors you need to know for Auburn Football Recruiting.
Rashan Gary eliminates Auburn
Auburn was in the race to land Gary, and No. 1 overall prospect in the country, and head coach Gus Malzahn visited him in Atlanta on Thursday night. However, that wasn't enough to keep him from eliminating Auburn. Yesterday, Gary announced that he would be deciding between Michigan and Clemson on National Signing Day. Nate Craig-Myers "50-50" between Auburn and North Carolina
It seemed like Auburn was well on their way to signing former commit and four-star wideout Nate Craig-Myers (Tampa, FL) on Signing Day, but now that is in question once again. Via 247sports' Keith Niebuhr:
"We've been digging much of the day and our sources have indicated that yes, things are much closer than everyone realizes. 'It's 50-50' a source close to Craig-Myers's recruitment noted. We can confirm Craig-Myers spoke with the Tar Heels on Monday. We do not know if he has talked with Auburn's Dameyune Craig -- his primary recruiter Monday. But chances are, he has. Right now, the feeling from multiple parties is that it's almost a tossup.
"Our sources do not think this is a ploy for more attention, but genuine. In any event, we know there has been at least some concern within the Tigers staff. According to a source, the Tar Heels have played up the potential for coaching instability at Auburn should the Tigers not have a strong 2016 season."
Craig-Myers originally committed to Auburn his junior year but decommitted in May 2015. He is ranked as the No. 6 receiver and No. 43 overall prospect in the country. He will make his decision at roughly 11:10 a.m. on ESPNU.
Tigers Benefit From Surprise Visit
Auburn had a surprise visit from safety Marlon Character this past weekend, the last weekend before Signing Day. He was supposed to check out Virginia Tech this weekend, but instead went down to Auburn. South Carolina was trying to steal away Character, but he told 247Sports he is 100 percent committed to the Tigers.
