We're just four days away from National Signing Day on February 3rd, which means head coach Gus Malzahn and the Auburn Tigers are focusing their efforts in hopes of delivering a great 2016 recruiting class. With that in mind, here are the latest news and rumors you need to know for Auburn Football Recruiting for January 31st.
Auburn Makes Late Push For Rashan Gary
Gary is the nation's No. 1 recruit and every team in the country would love to have him. In order to convince Gary to take his talents to Auburn, Malzahn, defensive coordinator and defensive line coach Rodney Garner visited Gary in Atlanta Thursday night, according to the Montgomery Advertiser. While Auburn tried to make one last push at Gary, he's unlikely to join the Tigers. Michigan is considered the favorite to land him. Tigers Benefit From Surprise Visit
This was the last weekend for visiting before national signing day, and the Tigers had a surprise visit from safety Marlon Character. He was supposed to check out Virginia Tech this weekend, but instead went down to Auburn. South Carolina was trying to steal away Character, but he told 247Sports he is 100 percent committed to the Tigers.
5-Star LB Visits
The biggest visit this weekend for Auburn was five-star LB Ben Davis. He told 247Sports that his visit to Auburn was great.
"It was great man," Davis said. "I wouldn't trade it for nothing in the world. I really enjoyed it. I got to see a lot of things I was wondering about. Answered a lot of questions by Coach (Gus Malzahn) and Coach (Kevin Steele). Great, great coaches. You know, I'm glad I got down here to see. It's going to be tough on signing day for me."
Davis is the No. 10 overall player in the nation and the top ranked inside linebacker. He said he doesn't have a leader right now.
"Man, everybody is up there for me," Davis said. "I really don't even have a leader, not after this visit. I knew coming in I was going to have a great visit. And I just wanted them to answer some more questions. You know, see how the coaches react. And the players, the relationships and stuff."
Davis will make his decision on signing day. Alabama, where Davis' father played, is current favorite on 247Sports. However, Auburn and Georgia are also in the running. The Chat Sports Android and iPhone app is the best place for all recruiting updates.
