It was a disappointing season for the Auburn Tigers. The team was expected by many to compete for an SEC title and a College Football Playoff Berth, but instead limped to a 6-6 record. On the bright side, Auburn will get to go bowling this year. Here are Auburn's 3 most likely bowl destinations this season.
Liberty Bowl (SEC vs. Big 12)
Saturday, January 2, 3:20 pm ET
Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium, Memphis, Tennessee
The Liberty Bowl is the least likely, although it could still happen. Remember, bowl bids are handed out not by standings, but by the bowl's preference. Auburn, despite a 6-6 record, will draw fans. The Liberty Bowl will likely take a better SEC team, but they could take the Tigers.
Belk Bowl (SEC vs. ACC)
Wednesday, December 30, 3:30 ET
Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, North Carolina
This is very similar to the Liberty Bowl situation. It's unlikely the Belk Bowl will pick Auburn, but it could happen. A middle of the road ACC would be Auburn's opponent if it gets this bowl.
Birmingham Bowl (SEC vs. American)
Wednesday, December 30, Noon ET
Legion Field, Birmingham, Alabama
This is the most likely outcome for Auburn. The Birmingham Bowl gets the last pick of SEC teams and that will likely be Auburn. It's almost a home game for Auburn, which will help ticket sales. The Tigers might be matched up against Memphis, which could make for one of the more intriguing non New Year's Six bowl games.
