The Auburn Tigers are in the midst of spring practice in preparation for the 2016 season, but that doesn't mean head coach Gus Malzahn & Co. have taken a step back on the recruiting trail. Here are all the latest news and rumors surrounding Auburn recruiting:
Auburn showing interest in 4-star LB
The Tigers are ramping up their pursuit of four-star linebacker Leonard Warner (Snellville, GA), who visited Auburn on Thursday. He was so impressed with what he saw that he said the Tigers are a factor in his recruitment.
“It went well,” Warner said, via 247sports. “We came and we talked to (LBs coach Travis Williams). He was fired up. He had a lot of energy and I saw how it translates to the players. The linebackers looked really solid today.
“(Williams) told me he could see me playing inside, but really be more toward the outside because of my length and speed. I talked to him for about 10-15 minutes after practice. He said just that in the recruiting process to find what’s important to me."
The 6'4", 220-pounder is ranked as the No. 15 inside linebacker and No. 205 overall prospect in the country. Auburn is competing with Georgia, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Duke, Stanford and Alabama.
Kentucky challenging Auburn for 4-star DL
Four-star defensive lineman M.J. Webb (Madison, GA) has said that Auburn is way ahead of everyone else in his mind, but that has change recently. Kentucky is starting the challenge Auburn for Webb's services because of his relationship with defensive line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh, who played for the Tigers.
Webb is ranked as the No. 6 defensive end and No. 207 overall prospect in the country.
4-star OT torn between Auburn, Alabama
Four-star offensive tackle Austin Troxell (Madison, AL) plans to stay in-state and attend either Auburn or Alabama - but they're neck-and-neck in his mind.
“They both need tackles," he said. "Auburn really needs young tackles, and they’re using that. Both schools need tackles. But really, I feel that’s a need for every team. But they have that, and they’re both in-state. That’s the main thing for both of them. I’d really have the opportunity as a freshman or sophomore.”
Troxell has visited both schools "countless" times, but Auburn will get a chance to make an impression when he attends their spring game.
“I’ll probably just watch how the players compete, how the coaches coach. I’ll be watching the offensive line in general, how the players’ attitudes are. You can tell a lot by how they carry themselves. You can tell if they’re enjoying themselves.”
The 6'7", 275-pounder is ranked as the No. 16 offensive tackle and No. 92 overall prospect in the country.
