The Auburn Tigers have turned all of their attention to recruiting after wrapping up spring practice last weeken, and head coach Guz Malzahn has been making waves on the recruiting trail over the past week. Here's all the latest news and rumors surrounding Auburn football recruiting:
Auburn impresses 4-star QB during visit
Four-star quarterback Kellen Mond (Bradenton, FL), a Baylor commit, made his second visit to Auburn at the end of this week, and left with a very good impression.
“It was a really good visit,” Mond said, via 247sports. “Got to sit down with Coach Malzahn, Coach Lashlee and Coach Burns and just talk some football. My quarterback coach from IMG was down here so he got to ask some questions about the offense and how I fit into it so it was a really good visit. I definitely feel like I could run the offense, throw the ball downfield in the offense so it’s definitely a perfect fit.
"I really like it. The first time I came down here was in the summer. I was with my dad most of the time. Now, I got to hang out with some of the players. It was really good meeting some of those guys.”
Was the visit enough to get him to reconsider his commitment to Baylor? Not quite - yet.
“Right now, I’m still a hard commit to Baylor but still taking visits. Stuff like that. Just went to Ohio State last weekend. Now Auburn. So just wherever my recruiting takes me.”
The 6'3", 200-pounder is ranked as the No. 5 dual-threat QB and No. 118 overall prospect in the country.
Top JUCO OT has Auburn in top 5
City College of San Francisco offensive tackle Elliot Baker - one of the top JUCO prospects in the country - was offered a scholarship by Auburn last week, and that was enough to put the Tigers in his top five.
Georgia, Mississippi State, Arizona State and Alabama join Auburn as his finalists, but said he doesn't have a favorite among them.
"Hopefully I can get to Auburn soon," he said, hoping to make an official visit this spring. "I am going to evaluate other offers soon and I am trying to get my visits out of the way before the season starts. When fall gets here my playing schedule gets pretty hectic."
The 6'7", 295-pounder is ranked as a four-star prospect.
