The Auburn Tigers won't have running back Peyton Barber next season. In a surprising move, Barber announced his decision to enter the NFL Draft on his Instagram page.
"I have decided to forego my eligibility at Auburn and enter the 2016 NFL Draft," Barber wrote. "This was a very tough decision for many reasons but after my family and I prayed about it, I know I am ready for the next step and that this is the best decision for me."
Barber was just a redshirt sophomore last season, meaning he is bypassing a two potential years at Auburn. Barber was pressed into playing time because of injuries and performed well. Barber became just the eighth Auburn RB to record 1,000 yards in a season.
Barber is talented, but it's unlikely he'll be selected before Day 3 of the NFL Draft.
With Barber gone, Roc Thomas and Jovon Robinson will likely take over at RB. The duo was ahead of Barber on the depth chart at the start of the season, but injuries allowed Barber to pass them.
