Mississippi State jumped out to an early 21-0 lead, using two Auburn turnovers on the Tigers' first two plays to spark their run.
Auburn then responded, forcing four turnovers of their own to cut the lead to 28-20 in the third quarter.
The score stayed the same until the fourth, when the Bulldogs seized momentum thanks to another Auburn turnover, holding off a late Tiger rally for the 38-23 win.
Turning Point: After Mississippi State kicked a field goal to go up 31-20, Auburn return man Ricardo Lewis was stripped on the ensuing kickoff. The Bulldogs recovered, setting their offense up inside the 20-yard line. They scored two plays later to go up 38-20 and put the game out of reach.
Key Stat: The Tigers were terrible at extending drives, going 4-13 on third down. They were able to score off of four Mississippi State turnovers, but weren't able to sustain any long drives.
Mississippi State MVP: Dak Prescott's two interceptions helped Auburn come back into the game, but he was still Mississippi State's best player on the field. He finished 18-34 passing for 246 yards and a touchdown, but included a monstrous 121 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Auburn MVP: Auburn's offense was looking for a spark, and wide receiver D'haquille Williams gave it to them. He had six receptions for 106 yards and two of the Tigers' three touchdowns, both of which came on incredible catches.
What’s Next? The Bulldogs remain in first place in the SEC West, and will likely be ranked No. 1 when the AP Poll comes out on Sunday. They're schedule lightens up as they travel to face Kentucky in Lexington next Saturday.
Auburn loses their first game of the season and has a bye week to regroup before they face a struggling South Carolina team at home on October 25.
