It was the wild, back-and-forth battle we were all hoping to see, and in the end, the Auburn Tigers came through victorious.
Turning Point:
Ole Miss was down four and driving with under two minutes left, but Rebels had their hearts ripped out with one of the most brutal sequences we've seen in some time. Rebels WR Laquon Treadwell (who had been phenomenal all night) was headed for the end zone when he was brought down from behind near the plane of the goal line. The ball came out as Treadwell's ankle clearly bent at an angle ankles aren't supposed to bend, and the go-ahead touchdown was ruled a fumble recovered by Auburn as Treadwell was carted off in serious pain.
Auburn MVP:
RB Cameron Artis-Payne and WR Sammie Coates were both excellent tonight, but it was QB Nick Marshall that really made the difference. Marshall racked up 254 passing yards and 50 rushing yards with four total touchdowns on the night, and his all-around performance made the difference in a huge win for the Tigers.
Ole Miss MVP:
This is a harsh result on Ole Miss QB Bo Wallace, who put on a Heisman-caliber performance against a very good team. Wallace finished 27/39 with 347 passing yards and 56 rushing yards on the night, with three total touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) to his name.
Stat of the Night:
Auburn's balanced offensive attack was in fine form tonight, with the Tigers picking up 254 passing yards and 248 rushing yards in a nearly symmetrical performance.
What's Next?
Auburn returns home to face a reeling Texas A&M team that barely beat UL-Monroe to end a three-game skid. Ole Miss can finally come up for air, and the Rebels will take a break from their grueling conference schedule to face the Presbyterian Blue Hose (yes, that's their actual team name) at home next Saturday.
