Auburn added a late 40-yard touchdown pass by Nick Marshall to take a 10-7 halftime lead over Kansas State in Manhattan, KS. The defenses dominated most of the half as turnovers plagued K-State's offense and Auburn's struggled to convert on 3rd down.
Here's what we saw in the first half:
Harley Day is a cool thing
You might have missed this if you are watching on TV as ESPN only briefly showed K-State's Harley Day. Basically it's hundreds of people revving their Harleys around the outside of the field during the pre-game festivities. Ok, on to game things...
Auburn won the breaks early
On the opening drive, Auburn punter Matthew Shiel dropped the snap, but was still able to get off the punt. On the ensuing drive, Kansas State quarterback Jake Waters fumbled a zone-read play leading to the opening 3-0 Auburn lead. Then, an interception on K-State’s next drive spoiled a touchdown.
Butterfingers?
Both teams’ wide receivers had big drops from the big players. Tyler Lockett dropped one in the end zone for K-State and Duke Williams dropped one that would have been a Tiger touchdown.
Auburn First-Half MVP: QB Nick Marshall
Not much to choose from here, but Auburn's leader came up with a big 40-yard TD late in the half to give Auburn the lead.
Kansas State First-Half MVP: DT Travis Britz
Britz batted down two of Nick Marshall's passes, one of which led to a K-State interception.
