Last year, former Alabama transfer Corey Grant only got nine carries all season. After a breakout performance against Washington State in which he ran for 146 yards and a touchdown (his first in three years), rumor has it that Gus Malzahn and the staff will be looking to increase his workload.
Listed at 5'11, 205, Grant has blinding speed and an incredible motor. His flat-out speed is impressive enough, but it's his acceleration that makes him such a valuable weapon. On his 75-yard touchdown run, a Washington State DB had a perfect angle to make a play, but Grant turned on the jets and turned a solid gain into a stunning TD run.
The time Grant spent stuck behind other backs on the Alabama depth chart has clearly left him with a chip on his shoulder, and Malzahn and co. will be looking to harness that fire as the season goes on. While Tre Mason and Cameron Artis-Moore are still major factors in Auburn's ground game, Malzahn will be adjusting the carries based on performance and opposing personnel.
We'll be closely monitoring Grant's progress as the season goes on - Auburn already had a dangerous offense, but now that they've shown how many offensive playmakers they have, the SEC is on notice.
