The Auburn Tigers kick off their 2014 season hosting the rival Arkansas Razorbacks. Fresh off a surprising 2013 season that ended with a run to the BCS National Championship, Auburn is looking to build off the success they established last year.
They got off to a perfect start, despite being without starting quarterback Nick Marshall. In his place, Jeremy Johnson hit receiver Melvin Ray for a 49-yard catch and run touchdown on Auburn's first offensive possession.
Arkansas answered with a quick score, after top rusher Alex Collins ripped off back-to-back 20-yard runs to set up the Razorbacks with a redzone visit.
Quarterback Brandon Allen promptly found Hunter Henry for a 14-yard score to tie the game at 7-7.
In response, Johnson and the Auburn offense continued their strong start, helping set up a one yard touchdown plunge by senior running back Cameron Artis-Payne, to put the Tigers back on top 14-7 late in the first quarter.
The following drive Johnson went over 200 yards passing with an 18-yard touchdown pass to D'haquille Williams, pushing Auburn's lead to 21-7.
Arkansas cut the lead to 21-14 with a score mid-way through the second quarter, as Allen connected for his second passing touchdown of the half.
The Razorbacks pulled even with a 93-yard touchdown drive, capped by a Jonathan Williams rushing touchdown.
Playing in place of Nick Marshall, backup quarterback Jeremy Johnson posted an impressive first half, throwing for 243 yards and 2 scores.
Arkansas' Alex Collins is the leading rusher with 70 yards on just six carries.
