Auburn Football News: D'haquille Williams Injury Update, Rhett Lashlee "Optimistic"

The Auburn Tigers' leading receiver, D'haquille Williams, could possibly miss his second-straight game when the team hosts Samford on Saturday.

Williams sat out Saturday's game against Texas A&M with a sprained MCL in his right knee. Offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee has been a witness to Williams' rehab work, but still doesn't have a definitive timetable for his return.

"I don't know," Lashlee said, via Joel A. Erickson of AL.com. "I'm optimistic, always, that we can get him back. I really think that is one of those day-to-day deals."

With Samford likely to be a walkthrough of sorts for Auburn, it is very possible that Malzahn and his coaching staff will hold Williams out until the Iron Bowl against Alabama.

However, his status for Saturday may not be fully indicative of how well Williams is progressing from the injury itself.

"Duke's coming along nicely," Lashlee said. "We'll just have to keep kind of taking it day-to-day."
