It’s been a weird year for Tyrone Mears. Coming over from the defending MLS Cup champion Seattle Sounders he immediately slotted into the starting right back position before losing his job to Anton Walkes about halfway through the season. The veteran of MLS hasn’t seen the field in nearly two months until he was randomly called on tonight by Tata Martino with Atlanta United trailing and up a man.
The assumption is, he was brought on for his crossing ability to try and create chances. Ironically, it would be him getting on the end of a cross that brought the game-tying goal in stoppage time in bizarre fashion.
