Atlanta United has acquired fullback Tyrone Mears from the Seattle Sounders. The club acquired his rights from the Sounders for $50,000 in general allocation after they declined to pick up his contract and then signed him to a contract of their own. He had a base salary of $175,000 in 2016.
Mears, 33, joined the Sounders in 2015 and helped lead the club to its first ever MLS Cup. He made 65 appearances over two seasons. The Englishman spent time with Manchester City, West Ham United, Marseille, Derby County, and Bolton Wanderers before moving to MLS. He has one cap with the Jamaican national team.
