According to The Athletic’s Paul Tenorio, Brek Shea’s injury on Sunday against the Seattle Sounders was much worse than originally feared. Shea has reportedly sustained a torn ACL in his knee and appears to be out for the forseeable future. Atlanta coach Frank de Boer confirmed the news in this morning’s training.
Multiple league sources tell me veteran winger/defender Brek Shea tore his ACL against the Sounders. Awful news for Shea, who has played 19 games this season, starting 10.

Shea is likely headed to Atlanta’s season-ending injury list, meaning that the club would then receive roster relief in the form of a roster slot as Shea would not count toward the 30-man limit.
