The offseason is typically a crazy time for lower-division soccer in the United States. Teams rise, teams fall, and teams switch leagues as each ownership group searches for the best option for their club. Some of the most-successful and best-run teams from the lower division become prime candidates for expansion club in higher leagues.
In 2018, there are two leagues who are aggressively looking to expand in the United States: NASL and the newly-formed NISA. NASL need to add teams quickly as they look to maintain their second division status with US Soccer. NISA, or National Independent Soccer Association, are a new league and are looking to bridge the gap between professional and amateur soccer in America.
