The destruction of the Omni Coliseum, one of Atlanta's landscape landmarks, happened prompty one morning 18 years ago this month.
The former home of the Atlanta Hawks was demolished on Saturday, July 26, 1997. Spectators gathered to watch 484 pounds of explosives bring the 24-year-old structure crumbling to the ground.
The Omni was located on west side of downtown Atlanta, next to the Georgia World Congress Center and other businesses along Marietta Street. The CNN Center, which was part of the Omni Complex, is now attached to the Philips Arena.
The Omni Complex saw concerts by legendary artists such as Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and Led Zeppelin.
