The center enters his second season, one that by his own admission did not go as he expected. Spellman experienced life management issues in controlling his weight and staying in shape last season. To make matters worse, an ankle injury cut his rookie season short.
Spellman has returned to the court with the Hawks in the Las Vegas Summer League this month. It’s his first real competition since he suffered the injury on March 1. The four-month absence took its toll.
“Knowing what you are capable of and not being able to be capable of that,” Spellman said of the toughest part of the comeback.
