During his rookie season, there was plenty of buzz that Atlanta Hawks big man John Collins should garner a spot in the 2018 NBA All-Star Slam Dunk Contest. In the end, however, the high-flyer from Wake Forest was left out of the mix in favor of Larry Nance Jr., Donovan Mitchell, Victor Oladipo and (injured) returning champion Aaron Gordon.
Eventually, Mitchell emerged victorious but, in 2019, Collins will reportedly have a chance (first reported by Oliver Maroney) to break through with participation of his own, according to Hawks radio voice Steve Holman.
Steve Holman has reported twice during tonight's broadcast that John Collins will be in the Slam Dunk Contest two weeks from Saturday, and that Vince Carter was serving as one of his "instructors" today.
