The Hawks have agreed to a 10-day contract with center Tyler Zeller, according to a person familiar with the situation. The deal is expected to be official Friday when the Hawks return to practice after an off day Thursday. The pending deal was first reported by ESPN.
The Hawks are in need of a big man. Starting center Dewayne Dedmon missed Wednesday’s loss to the Spurs with right knee contusion. Forward Alex Poythress, on a two-way contract, suffered a right ankle sprain in the game and could miss extended time. Also, the team lost forward Omari Spellman to a sprained left ankle last week and the rookie will miss at least four weeks.
